Rising School Impact Fees in Orange County

Everyone who needs a Permit for a new home seems to know about the impact fees which will increase by $4,800.00 in Orange County for a School impact fee, but ask a plans examiner and they say they have no idea.

We submitted a new home permit and asked if it would be completed by the January 28, 2008 deadline for impact fee increase and the permitting department seemed clueless to this increase. Once we told them it was happening they informed us that School impact fee increases are based on when the permit is issued not applied for. All other impact fees are effective based on the time the permit is submitted....why is that?

With rising costs, property taxes and a lull in new construction they have decided to raise the school impact fee to a point that you could send your child to a nice private school.....but hey you want to know the good news?

They didn't have to raise property taxes again.....are you kidding me? Why do we keep putting up with this. Pass it on to the builders of new homes....they have to pay it to stay in business. While Charlie Christ pushes Amendment 1 using millions of dollars in advertising stating that it reduces our property taxes, they are nailing new homes with yet another impact fee increase.

Personally? I say Vote NO to Amendment One just to send a message that we are tired of the smoke and mirrors. They say they are going to increase our Homestead Exemption......... Whoopeeeeeeee! On average I heard it's around $197.00? Come on, they are spending more in advertising than what we will get in return just so they can get re-elected.
